In June 2025, Wuyi University integrated School of Foreign Languages, School of Political Science and Law, School of Liberal Arts, and Institute of Overseas Chinese Culture and Regional Studies to establish School of Humanities and Law (hereinafter referred to as "the School").

The school currently offers six undergraduate majors, including Law, Social Work, Chinese Language and Literature, English, Business English, and Japanese, along with a master's degree program in Subject Teaching. There are 1,817 undergraduate students and 9 postgraduate students. Among them, both the Law and Social Work majors are designated as characteristic specialty construction sites and first-class undergraduate major construction sites in Guangdong Province, while the Chinese Language and Literature major is a characteristic specialty in Guangdong Province. The school boasts a strong faculty, with 124 faculty and staff members, including 5 international teachers and 44 faculty members with senior professional titles. Two professors have been selected into the Guangdong Provincial Expert Database for Language and Writing Work. The school has also engaged a team of part-time industrial teachers composed of frontline teaching masters and experienced practical experts from primary and secondary schools, media organizations, courts, procuratorates, law firms, and social work institutions in Jiangmen City, forming a faculty team that combines full-time and part-time members with complementary strengths, providing a solid guarantee for the cultivation of high-quality applied professionals.

Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, the school fully implements the Party's educational policies, firmly promotes the integration of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era into textbooks, classrooms, and students' minds, and deeply advances the comprehensive and high-quality development of curriculum-based ideological and political education. The school actively explores educational and teaching reforms in "curriculum-based ideological and political education," establishing a Curriculum-Based Ideological and Political Education Research Center. It organizes various activities such as training sessions, lectures by renowned scholars, workshops, and teaching competitions to promote the construction of curriculum-based ideological and political education across the entire school. In the past three years, one course has been recognized as a provincial-level curriculum-based ideological and political education course, three curriculum-based ideological and political education cases have been featured on Xinhua Net, and three courses have been selected as outstanding curriculum-based ideological and political education cases at the university level. The school closely aligns with national strategies and the development needs of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, taking the cultivation of high-quality and applied outstanding professionals as its fundamental goal and continuously optimizing its professional curriculum systems. The Law major has constructed a "three-in-one" curriculum system integrating "Basic Law + Foreign-Related Law + Overseas Chinese Affairs Management" based on the local characteristics of overseas Chinese hometowns. The Social Work major has built a curriculum system that mutually supports "Grassroots Social Governance + Cross-Border Elderly Care" in accordance with industry demands and development trends. The Chinese Language and Literature major has established a curriculum system focusing on "Literary Literacy + Writing Skills + Cultural Communication," while the foreign language majors have created a curriculum system centered on "Language Skills + Professional Knowledge + Cross-Cultural Communication."

In 2025, leveraging the university's strengths in science and engineering ("hard power"), the legal discipline ("soft support"), and Jiangmen's "overseas Chinese resources," the school created the "Foreign-Related Rule of Law + Intellectual Property Protection" Innovation Experimental Class on the basis of the original "Intellectual Property Protection" Innovation Experimental Class. Adhering to the core concept of "Technology as the Foundation, Overseas Chinese Capital as the Enabler, and Law as the Protector of Innovation," the class is committed to cultivating compound and applied outstanding talents with "technical expertise, proficiency in foreign-related matters, and connections to overseas Chinese networks," combining "technology + foreign languages + rule of law."

The school encourages teaching teams to apply for teaching quality and reform projects and first-class course construction projects at all levels by optimizing the structure of grassroots teaching organizations, strengthening the construction and management of teaching teams, and supporting teaching teams in carrying out educational and teaching reforms and curriculum construction activities, thereby enhancing teachers' teaching abilities and curriculum construction capabilities. The school has 3 provincial-level first-class undergraduate courses, 10 provincial-level undergraduate teaching quality and reform projects, one third prize in the Second Excellent Achievement Award in Higher Education Research of the Guangdong Higher Education Society, 5 university-level teaching achievement awards, and 40 university-level reform projects for high-quality undergraduate course construction and innovation and entrepreneurship education construction. We strongly support young teachers in participating in various teaching competitions to promote teaching through competition and research through competition, achieving remarkable results. In the past three years, over 20 young teachers have participated in various teaching competitions, with 18 winning provincial-level or higher awards. Among them, the team led by Teacher Xie Jiaxin won the Special Prize in the National Final of the Business English Major Group of the 15th "SFLEP Cup" National Foreign Language Teaching Contest for Colleges and Universities in 2024.

There are 10 provincial-level teaching and research platforms and over 110 industry-university-research bases established with government agencies and enterprises, covering multiple fields such as law, sociology, literature, linguistics, and regional studies, providing favorable conditions for teachers to conduct research. In the past three years, our teachers have presided over 10 national and provincial-level research projects, published 86 high-quality academic papers in core academic journals, and published 12 textbooks and academic monographs. We have always adhered to the educational philosophy of "facing the local community and serving society" and actively participated in social service work. In terms of local legislation, a specialized legislative team has been formed and participated in the formulation of a series of local regulations, such as the Regulations on the Protection of Xinhui Chenpi in Jiangmen City and the Regulations on the Inheritance and Development of Overseas Chinese Cuisine in Jiangmen City. In terms of social policy formulation, the school has drafted government planning documents such as the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Civil Affairs in Jiangmen City" and the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the Elderly Care Service System in Jiangmen City." In terms of cultural services, the school provides consulting services for local cultural construction and participates in the organization and planning of activities such as the Overseas Chinese Culture Festival and literary creation competitions. In terms of translation services, the school provides translation support for the international exchanges and cooperation of local governments and enterprises. In addition, the school has actively participated in the Guangdong Double Hundred Social Work Supervision Program, the construction of a rule-of-law Enping, the diversified dispute resolution efforts of various legal work departments in Jiangmen City, and basic education assistance work, contributing to social governance and public services and receiving wide acclaim from all sectors of society.

The school creates a strong learning atmosphere and promotes the all-round development of students through characteristic projects such as the "Excellent Learning Plan," "Joyful Reading Plan," "Research Guidance Program," and "Public Service Examination Navigation Program." In the past three years, students have achieved excellent results in various subject competitions, winning a total of 81 national awards and 233 provincial awards. There have been 123 projects approved for the National College Students' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Program, including 16 national-level projects. In 2024, the pass rate of the National Unified Legal Professional Qualification Examination reached 45.6%, far higher than the national average of 15%. The pass rates of the English Proficiency Test Band 4 and Band 8 each year are also higher than the national average. Enterprises and alumni have respectively established the "Chen Zhenqiang Education Fund," the "Yingke Scholarship," and the "Xulang Scholarship" to commend outstanding students in professional learning, academic and technological research, student work, volunteer services, and legal popularization, encouraging students to actively engage in academic research and practical innovation. In the past three years, students have won 2 first prizes, 1 second prize, and 1 third prize in the provincial competitions of the "Challenge Cup." A total of 121 graduates have been admitted to postgraduate programs at well-known domestic and foreign universities such as Beijing Foreign Studies University, Central China Normal University, Southwest University of Political Science and Law, East China University of Political Science and Law, Central South University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and the University of Nottingham in the UK. Thirty graduates have actively responded to the national call and enthusiastically participated in programs such as the "Three Supports and One Assistance" Program, the "Mountainous Area Program," and the "Western Development Program," and 10 students have enlisted in the military. The overall employment rate of the school has reached over 90%. In line with the educational positioning of local universities serving regional development and anchoring the construction goal of a "new liberal arts with distinct overseas Chinese cultural characteristics," the school, based on the actual situation of Jiangmen as an overseas Chinese hometown and guided by industry demands and overseas Chinese hometown development, precisely sets professional training directions: the Law major offers three characteristic module directions, namely Foreign-Related and Overseas Chinese Legal Affairs, Legal Practice, and Intellectual Property Law; the Social Work major focuses on Grassroots Social Governance and Social Work (including Overseas Chinese Hometown Social Governance and Social Work) and Aging and Elderly Social Work (including Cross-Border Elderly Care), effectively serving the practical needs of the economic and social development of overseas Chinese hometowns. At the same time, the school regularly organizes students to participate in overseas Chinese affairs and overseas Chinese culture promotion practices, such as the "Root-Seeking" project, the Overseas Chinese Culture Inheritance Project, the "Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Project," and the compilation of overseas Chinese literary works, allowing students to cultivate a sense of identity and a sense of responsibility for inheriting overseas Chinese culture through practice.

Looking ahead, the school will take the opportunity of preparing for the undergraduate education and teaching review and assessment to further strengthen its internal construction. To this end, the school will focus on cultivating characteristic talents and strive to create integrated training models such as "Foreign-Related Rule of Law + Foreign Languages + Overseas Chinese Affairs," "Literature + Overseas Chinese Hometown Culture + Communication," and "Foreign Languages + Cross-Cultural Communication + Overseas Chinese Affairs." Through measures such as reconstructing talent training programs, promoting cross-major minor programs, and creating innovation experimental classes, the school will continuously supply applied and compound talents for the construction of the "Belt and Road" and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. On this basis, the school will leverage its professional advantages to expand its social service areas, focusing on cultivating brand projects with extensive influence such as local legislative services, foreign-related and overseas Chinese legal services, community governance services, cross-border elderly care services, cultural communication services, and translation services, injecting more intellectual impetus into local social development.

Standing at the dawn of a new era, School of Humanities and Political Science and Law will always adhere to its original educational mission, forge ahead with an enterprising spirit, and continuously write new chapters in the journey of talent cultivation, social services, and cultural inheritance and dissemination, contributing the strength of Yida to the cultivation of practical liberal arts innovation talents and local social development!
