The predecessor of the Sports Department was the Sports Group, which was affliated with theBasic Curriculum Department established by the school in 1985.On September 27, 1993, the President's Office decided to establish the Sports Department, which became a functionaldepartment for school sports work and an independent teaching unit, responsible for school sportsteaching, extracurricular sports activities, school representative team training and competition, student physical health testing, sports science research, and other work.

The Ministry of Sports currently has 22 faculty members and 19 full-time teachers, including 2 professors and 6 associate professors. There are also 6 national athletes in the teaching staff.

The existing comprehensive sports center, track and field court, basketball court, volleyball court，football field, tennis court and other venues cover an area of 66318.82 square meters.

As a specialized department for implementing sports work in schools, the Sports Departmentdeeply implements General Secretary Xi jinping's important discourse on building a strong sportscountry. One is to give full play to the important function of physical education and teaching in thedevelopment of the five educations and comprehensive education. Help students enjoy fun,enhance their physical fitness, improve their personality, and exercise their willpower in physicaexercise. Promote the organic integration of school physical education with moral, intellectual,aesthetic, and labor education. The second is to deepen the integration of in class and out of classteaching reform and improve the quality of physical education courses. Combine physical educationcourses with innovative talent cultivation, strengthen the construction of "overseas Chinese"characteristic physical education courses and swimming characteristic courses, add emergingsports projects, and steadily promote the reform of physical education teaching. The third is to carryout regular physical activities for teachers and students. Strengthen the training and quidance ofsports skils for faculty and staff, promote the development of various sports competitions forteachers and students, and ensure the use and service quarantee of school sports facilities. Thefourth is to strengthen cooperation with the sports management department of Jiangmen City, actively participate in the development of local sports, and play an active role in national fitnesssports culture construction, and other aspects.
