The School of Politics and Law originated from the Department of Social Sciences and Arts at Wuyi University, established in 1986. Its predecessor was the Department of Political Education and Law, and it was renamed the School of Political Science and Law in 2010. In 2017, the Intellectual Property Protection Innovation Experimental Class was established at Wuyi University.
The school offers two undergraduate majors, Law and Social Work. The law major is a construction site for characteristic majors in Guangdong Province, a pilot unit for comprehensive legal reform in Guangdong Province, a construction unit for off campus school students' practice bases in Guangdong Province, and a construction site for first-class undergraduate majors in Guangdong Province. The social work major is the incubation and cultivation base for social work professionals in Jiangmen City, the cultivation base for social work professionals in Jiangmen City, the construction site for characteristic majors in Guangdong Province, and the construction site for first-class undergraduate majors in Guangdong Province.
The school currently has 34 faculty members, including 12 associate professors or above, 16 doctoral students, and 5 doctoral students. Many teachers graduated from domestic 985 and 211 universities as well as well-known overseas universities. The school has also hired more than 50 part-time teachers, including practical personnel from courts, procuratorates, law firms, social work organizations, intellectual property agencies, and well-known experts, forming a strong team of full-time and part-time teachers to meet the teaching needs of cultivating high-quality applied professional talents.
The school has 5 provincial and municipal scientific research service platforms, 1 school level scientific research service platform, and 3 laboratories. We have cooperated with the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Jiangmen City, the People's Courts at all levels, the People's Procuratorates at all levels, multiple law firms, the Intellectual Property Bureau, multiple patent and trademark firms, and social work organizations in Jiangmen City to establish more than 60 off campus undergraduate teaching, internship, and training bases, including the "Jiangmen Public Legal Service Platform". Among them, there are more than 30 industry university research bases. Not only can it effectively meet the practical training needs of students, but it has also formed an effective cooperation mechanism among the government, school, industry, and enterprises.
Under the correct leadership of the school party committee, the party and government personnel and all faculty members of the school worked together to promote the development of the school and achieve good results. Both the Law and Social Work majors of the school were approved as first-class undergraduate majors in Guangdong Province in 2022. As of July 2024, the school has trained approximately 1440 legal professionals and 435 social work professionals. Most of the legal and social workers active in Guangdong, especially in the Pearl River Delta, have become the backbone of social construction. The school actively organizes teachers to carry out various social services, participates in local legislative work, forms a specialized legislative team to formulate a series of top-level designs for government work, participates in Guangdong's Double Hundred Social Work Supervision, Rule of Law Enping Construction, Jiangmen Judicial Bureau Pre litigation Joint Investigation and many other works, and has received widespread praise from all sectors of society. In recent years, the school has been awarded honorary titles such as Guangdong Provincial March 8th Red Flag Collective, Jiangmen Advanced Grassroots Party Organization, Jiangmen Women's Civilization Post, Jiangmen May Fourth Red Flag Youth League (General) Branch, and National University Vitality Youth League Branch.
In the future, the school will continue to adhere to the educational philosophy of Wuyi University, which is "facing the local community and serving society". It will continue to make efforts in talent cultivation, scientific research, social services, cultural inheritance, and other aspects to provide talent and intellectual support for the development of local society.
