Since its foundation, Wuyi University has included adult higher education in its curriculum and has developed it with general higher education synchronously. As early as 1985, Wuyi University set up the Ministry of Adult Education in its initial institutional frame, and appointed full-time personnel to launch the teaching work for cadre specialized classes. Later, it was adjusted to the Adult Education Office of Wuyi University, a department supervised under the Office of Academic Affairs. With the approval of the former Provincial Department of Higher Education, our univerisity began to recruit adult education students from night school and correspondence education in 1988, and expanded the scale of student numbers gradually. In 1994, our university officially established the Adult Education College of Wuyi University on the basis of the Adult Education Office. In 1996, our university passed the qualified evaluation of teaching level for night and correspondence courses by the former Provincial Department of Higher Education. In 2001, the Adult Education College of Wuyi University was renamed as the Continuing Education College of Wuyi University. The training center was established in 2007.

The School of Continuing Education of Wuyi University is located on the fifth floor of the South Main Building. The school follows the university's educational philosophy of "rooted in the hometown, serving society, internal and external cooperation, distinctive development," and adheres to the educational strategy of "steady development of continuing education with academic degrees and vigorous development of continuing education with non-academic degrees". The education provided by our college closely follows the needs of economic and social development in the local area and takes into account the characteristics of adult higher education to actively provide adult academic degree education and training services for Wuyi regions which are the hometown of many overseas Chinese. After nearly 40 years of construction and development, the school has made great progress in terms of curriculum setting, operation scale, facility conditions, and education quality, and its social reputation has continued to improve. The school offers academic education for students who want to upgrade from junior college to bachelor degrees, as well as academic education at the junior college level for students starting from high school. At the same time, it conducts various forms of continuing education trainings and makes positive contributions to the economic and social development of Wuyi area.
