The School of Foreign Languages in Wuyi University was originally established as the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature at the founding of the university in 1985. In the same year, the English program began enrolling students. Currently, the school comprises the English Department, Business English Department, Japanese Department, College English Division, and the Graduate Division. It offers three Bachelor’s degree programs in English (TEFL & Translation), Japanese, and Business English, as well as a Master's degree program in English Education. There are a total of 618 students enrolled. The school adheres to the educational philosophy of "laying a solid foundation, enhancing capabilities, focusing on caliber, respecting individuality, and highlighting distinctive features," aiming to cultivate applied and interdisciplinary foreign language talents with international perspectives and a sense of national duty for the local economic and social development and the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. The school actively engages in international exchanges and cooperation, implementing undergraduate exchange and overseas study programs in collaboration with universities in the United States, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, and other regions. Every year, outstanding students are selected to study and join exchange programs at the University of Macau and Macau University of Science and Technology, broadening their international horizons and enhancing their intercultural communication skills. The school has always emphasized the cultivation of students' language application skills and comprehensive practical abilities, strongly supporting student participation in various academic competitions at national, provincial, and municipal levels. In the past three years, students have won 19 national awards and 86 provincial awards. The pass rates for TEM4 and TEM8 exams are both higher than the national average. In nearly 40 years since its establishment, the School of Foreign Languages has contributed over 3,000 outstanding talents to society. Graduates are widely employed in government departments, financial institutions, primary and secondary schools, education and training organizations, and foreign trade enterprises across the Pearl River Delta region. In the past three years, the overall employment rate of graduates has reached over 95%, with 54 students pursuing further studies or studying abroad annually, showing an increasing trend. Among them, 10 students were exempted from entrance examinations and recommended to prestigious universities for postgraduate studies. Embarking on a new journey with new missions in this new era, the School of Foreign Languages will accomplish new tasks under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese characteristics for a New Era, by fully implementing the Party's educational guidelines, fulfilling the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education, and cultivating socialist builders and successors who are well-rounded in moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labor education.
