The School of Mathematics and Computational Science was established in 2009 based on the Department of Mathematics and Physics founded in 1992. Currently, it offers three undergraduate programs: Mathematics and Applied Mathematics (normal), Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Actuarial Science. Among them, Mathematics and Applied Mathematics is a national first-class undergraduate major construction point, a Guangdong provincial first-class undergraduate major construction point, and a Guangdong provincial characteristic major. It passed the second-level professional certification of teacher education majors by Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China. The school has one master's degree program in the first-level discipline of Mathematics.

The school has 40 full-time teachers, including 12 professors, 12 associate professors, 26 teachers with PhD degrees, 2 doctoral supervisors, and 20 master supervisors. In recent years, faculty members have undertaken 11 national research projects and 13 provincial research projects with a total funding of more than 8 million yuan, published three academic monographs, two translated works, four teaching textbooks and over 160 papers in renowned domestic and international journals and had four patents.

The School aims to provide students with an exceptional education that combines theory and practice. We have established practice bases and owned various laboratories including the Comprehensive Training Center of Normal Major, Mathematics Innovation Training Space, and Data Science and Big Data Lab.
