International Students’ Dive into Traditional Chinese New Year: Writing "Fu" Characters, Pasting Spring Couplets, Celebrating the Lantern Festival

As the prelude to the Spring Festival quietly unfolds,the School of International Education has meticulously planned a series of Spring Festival activities,organizing international students to embark on this immersive cultural journey.Amidst laughter and joy,they experience the charm and warmth of traditional Chinese culture.

The Ancient Charm of the Overseas Chinese Hometown

On January 23rd,the school organized a cultural experience activity titled "Welcoming the Spring Festival and Exploring the Overseas Chinese Hometown" for international students in Xinhui District,Jiangmen City.The students visited the Former Residence of Liang Qichao, feeling the patriotic spirit of the pioneer of modern reform. They entered the postal warehousing and logistics center,witnessing the vitality of the hometown's economic development. They strolled through Chakeng Village, enjoying the tranquility and harmony of the Lingnan ancient village. They visited Xinbao Tang Tangerine Peel Company, learning about the charm of intangible cultural heritage, and savored the distinctive flavor of Qiaodu coffee at Chengpin Coffee Factory..This activity allowed international students to deeply understand the profound cultural heritage of the overseas Chinese hometown and further enhanced their recognition and love for traditional Chinese culture.

Spring Couplets Reflecting Good Fortune and Ushering in the New Year

On January 26th, Li Hua,the Deputy Party Secretary of the University;,Wang Chuanyang, Dean of the School of International Education, and others visited the international students'dormitories.They pasted paper cuttings and wrote couplets with the students,conveying warmth and care through their actions.This also allowed the international students to savor the unique charm of traditional Chinese culture firsthand.The students expressed that these activities gave them a deeper understanding of the traditional customs of the Spring Festival.

Warmth on New Year's Eve, Sharing the Grand Feast

On the evening of January 28th, the school organized international students to watch the Spring Festival Gala together.During this warm time of watching the programs,Chinese students vividly described to the international students the rich traditional customs of the Spring Festival,from the family reunion dinner on New Year's Eve to the lantern-lit nights of the Lantern Festival.The wonderful performances of the Spring Festival Gala were like a visual feast, deeply engaging international students and enabling them to fully immerse themselves in the unique festive atmosphere and joy of the Chinese Spring Festival.

Lantern Festival Celebrations, Rich Hakka Sentiments

On February 11th, the school organized international students to visit Tonghe Village in Daze Town, Xinhui District, Jiangmen City, to participate in the local Lantern Festival celebrations.The Lantern Festival activities in Tonghe Village are one of the intangible cultural heritages of Jiangmen City, showcasing unique Hakka folk characteristics. In this activity, The international students had the opportunity to immerse themselves deeply in the essence of Hakka culture, which included traditional gongs and lion dances, Danluogeshan folk song performances, special banquets, and vibrant song and dance shows.The local villagers warmly welcomed the international students and took photos with them.The students expressed that this activity not only deepened their understanding of the profound traditional Chinese culture but also allowed them to truly feel the simple and sincere hospitality of the Chinese people.

In Tonghe Park,the international students learned in detail about the history of Premier Zhou Enlai's inspection of Daze, Xinhui, in January, 1958 and his warm interaction with the villagers. The students jointly commemorated the profound historical connection between the Premier and this land."

Through immersive participation in Spring Festival-themed cultural activities,international students not only understood the meanings of traditional customs such as visiting flower markets,pasting spring couplets,and having reunion dinners; but also profoundly understood the Eastern philosophical wisdom behind"reunion and blessing." This cross-border cultural practice is not only a vivid illustration of civilizational exchange in the globalized era but also provides a tangible example for building a community with a shared future for mankind.When teachers and students hang up Chinese knots together and multilingual New Year greetings echo in the same space,cultural differences are transformed into a powerful force for understanding through sincere interaction."The Spring Festival is not just a grand festival but also a cultural bridge connecting the world!"
