This fall semester, Wuyi University welcomed over 5700 new students, including the first cohort of undergraduate students from Pacific Island countries and students enrolled in the "2+2" Sino-foreign cooperative education program. This marks the first intake for the School of International Education, which was newly established in 2023.
Since the beginning of the new student registration, the university has placed great emphasis on the process, devising targeted welcome plans and orientation arrangements to facilitate the School of International Education and its first cohort of students in embarking on a new journey together. This initiative serves the national strategy for educational openness and international talent cultivation. The School of International Education has meticulously implemented the university's welcome plans, planning ahead and organizing with care to warmly receive the new students. The school maintains communication with new students and their parents, understanding their actual needs and patiently answering questions. They have also organized volunteer training for students to help new students adapt to the new environment and fully engage in university life as quickly as possible.

The university proactively serves the country's major development strategies and actively responds to the "Belt and Road" initiative. It focuses on talent cultivation and recruits international students in the field of Communication Engineering (Emergency Communication and Command) from Pacific Island countries to cultivate professional talent in disaster management, thereby better advancing the construction of the China-Pacific Island Countries Disaster Reduction Cooperation Center. Fifteen international students from Fiji, Solomon Islands, and Papua New Guinea have crossed mountains and seas to embark on their university journey at Wuyi University.
On August 31st, Chancellor Luan Tiangang and President Zhang Yunhua had a cordial conversation with international students at the welcome site, inquiring about their situations after arriving at the university. Luan Tiangang warmly welcomed the international students who had traveled across the ocean to Wuyi University and presented them with a thoughtful gift package. He hopes that everyone will delve into Chinese culture, study professional knowledge diligently, and use their acquired skills to contribute to the disaster prevention and reduction capabilities of their own countries, thereby contributing more youthful strength to the construction of a closer China-Pacific Island Countries community with a shared future.

On the afternoon of August 30th, President Zhang Yunhua visited the international students. He warmly welcomed them to the Wuyi University family and expressed his hope that they would achieve academic success at Wuyi University, contribute to the construction and development of their own countries, and build bridges for friendly cooperation between China and Pacific Island countries, as well as enhance mutual understanding among peoples.
The international students expressed their gratitude for the university's warm service and said they were very excited to study in China and at Wuyi University. The warm and friendly atmosphere among the university's faculty and students made them feel at home despite having traveled across the ocean.

Wuyi University's undergraduate "2+2" Sino-foreign cooperative education program is a joint training project with renowned foreign universities, relying on the university's strengths and implementing credit recognition and joint degree awards. This year, the university's "2+2" cooperative education program offers two majors: Computer Science and Technology and Communication Engineering, with credit recognition and joint degree awards with the University of Wollongong, Victoria University in Australia, and the University of Portsmouth in the UK. The university has specially equipped classrooms and teaching facilities suitable for program students, built smart classrooms and language training rooms, and started offering foreign teacher oral classes and IELTS training classes to students on the program from the beginning of their enrollment to enhance their English listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
On the day of new student registration, students of "2+2" cooperative education also entered the Wuyi University campus with anticipation and high expectations. They looked forward to being exposed to different cultural backgrounds, ways of thinking, and values through the university's "2+2" Sino-foreign cooperative education program. They aim to learn advanced international knowledge and technology, expand their international horizons, enhance their comprehensive qualities, improve their cross-cultural communication skills, and become high-quality applied international innovative talents with international competitiveness. The Dean of the School of International Education and relevant faculty members visited the new student dormitories, warmly welcomed the arrival of new students and their parents, and stated that the university provides high-quality teaching resources and creates a favorable learning environment for cooperatively cultivated students to help them grow and succeed.

Next, the university will follow the established talent cultivation plan and synergize efforts in education and teaching, faculty team, and management services to promote the education of international students and the "2+2" cooperative education program. It will strive to build the university's international education brand, cultivate high-quality applied outstanding talents with an international perspective, and promote the high-quality development of the university with high-level educational openness.
