    Wuyi University(WYU) is situated in Jiangmen City,Guangdong Province, a well-known ancestral home of many overseas Chinese . As a full-time comprehensive university, it occupies a land area of over a thousand mu with a total floor space of construction of 320,000 sq. meters. At present, the university has two colleges and 2 schools ( Continuing Education College, Higher Vocational Technical College, Management School and School of Information), with 15 departments of 46 fields of specialization (For details, see the "An Introduction to WYU"), and a staff of over 600, of whom over 200 are full professors or associate professors. Full time students number over 7,000 and those in continuing education over 3000. WYU is approved by the State Education Commission to accept foreign students. Every department of the university offers courses for those who have passed The Chinese Proficiency Test. Accepted students will be placed in regular or preliminary classes, according to their levels. WYU offers a long-term program of Chinese Language and Culture, which lasts from six months to two years. WYU also offers special short-term courses to meet the needs of those who wish to learn about China and have a special interest both in
Chinese language and Chinese culture.

 Long Term Study

I. Courses Offered in Chinese Language and Culture
1. Chinese Language: Basic Chinese, Chinese Phonetics, Listening and Speaking, Reading, Writing, Translation ,Chinese Literature and so on.
2. Chinese Culture (taught in English if needed): Chinese History, Chinese Traditional Philosophy, Chinese Calligraphy and Traditional Painting, Chinese Martial Arts, Chinese Culture and Travel, Calculation with an Abacus, Chinese Folk Customs and Culture, Literary Appreciation. And so on.
3. China Today (taught in English if needed): China's Social Structure, China's Educational System, Economic Development in China, Current Status of Chinese Women, China's Foreign Trade, China's Minorities, China's Laws & Legal System and so on .

II. Academic Programs
1. Long-term classes starting in September or in March last from one semester to four semesters (18 weeks in a semester). Some of the subjects listed above are also offered in special programs according to the students' levels of proficiency in Chinese and the length of time for study.
2. Short-term Chinese Language and Culture classes last 4 to 18 weeks . These classes emphasize the training of listening comprehension and speaking skill, either in Putonghua (Mandarin) or Cantonese, as well as a brief introduction to Chinese culture and to contemporary China.
3. For a group of 10 or more students the starting time and program of courses can be tailored to the group's needs.
4. After admission the students will be grouped into classes of 10 to 25,or will join a class in progress if their Chinese proficiency warrants it.
5. Classes are held Monday through Friday, with coaching provided if necessary.

III. Application Procedures
1. All foreigners, Chinese of foreign citizenship, and Overseas Chinese,aged 16 and above interested in studying Chinese language and culture and in good health may apply for enrollment. Applicants must be willing to observe the laws and decrees of the Chinese government, and abide by the rules and regulations of the university and respect Chinese customs.
2. Interested institutions, groups or individuals should contact the Foreign Affairs Office of WYU for application forms three months in advance of their planned registration.
3. Applicants should mail the filled-out application forms to the Foreign Affairs Office of WYU. Each applicant is also expected to remit to the Office a US$30 handling cost by bank draft, payable to account No.4750220-15140000181, Gao Cheng Sub-branch, Jiangmen Branch, Bank of China.
4. An Admission Notice and a JW 202 Form will be sent to the accepted applicant. With the Admission Notice and JW 202 Form he or she can apply at a Chinese embassy or consulate for an entry visa.
