Outline of a Six Week Summer Program
Time: End of June to early of August
Board and Lodging: In the Cultural Exchange Centre of Wuyi University
Two students share one room
Program
I Classroom Study (for four weeks):
1. Putonghua(Mandarin) (4 periods per week, for a total of 24 periods)
2. Lectures: 1 lecture a day on a wide range of topics, such as:
a. Introduction to the main features of Chinese history
b. General introduction to Chinese traditional philosophy
c. Chinese folk customs
d. Introduction to Chinese literature
e. Education in China
f. Economic development in China
g. China's geography and places of special interest
II Field Trips (for a total of 6 days)
Visiting rural villages, schools and developing towns. Visits to places
which represent aspects of modern Chinese society
III Tours of places of historic interest and scenic beauty:
(For a total of 6 whole day trips)
IX Elective activities (6 hours per week)
a.Chinese martial arts (4 periods per week, for a total of 24 periods)
b.Swimming, table tennis, badminton, basketball
c.Visits to a food market and an antique market
d.An introduction to Chinese calligraphy, painting and music
e.Making Jiaozi (dumplings)
Fee: US$ 1174 (GBP780) (10-15 persons in a group; courses for 1-3 groups
can be run simultaneously)
Courses in Chinese Culture & Modern China
(Duration: 2-8 weeks)
To meet the needs of foreign students who wish to become acquainted
with Chinese language and culture, Wuyi University offers, in addition
to the Short-term summer program, a flexible program of courses on "Chinese
Culture & Modern China". These courses can be organized over
periods of 2-8 weeks according to the interests and wishes of groups
numbering not fewer than 10. The activities will include lectures, field
trips, recreational activities, etc.
The inclusive fee is US$ 32 per person per day. Languages of instruction
may be: Mandarin, Cantonese or English, as students may request. Any
individual or organization interested in either of these programs can
